This is the result of the femoral osteotomy on a 6 year old (see the pre op xray). The purpose of a femoral osteotomy is to change the angle of the femur so that is it properly seated in the pelvis. The socket is not fully developed and the femoral head is much smaller than normal. Being in the socket will hopefully stimulate the growth of both the socket and the femoral head.
